Oak Cliff’s own Floramay Holliday kicks off tour at the Kessler this Friday
This Friday, Oak Cliff’s Floramay Holliday kick’s off her East Coast tour supporting a brand new record at the Kessler Theater. Go Oak Cliff sent Ms. Holliday a few questions to find out more about her life in the Cliff, her music, and what she’s listening to these days:
How long have you lived in Oak Cliff?
I moved to Oak Cliff from Austin in 2004 to join my husband, Gabor Racz, who was already a local!
In which neighborhood do you hang your hat?
We live in Kessler Park and love our neighbors and the “cliffs”.
How would you describe your music to a first timer wanting to come this Friday?
Original Country-Folk-Rock-Bluegrass-Blues music that you can dance to!
We know you play in Austin with Sis Deville often. Is this your first tour out of Texas?
This Friday night I will have the Floramay Holliday Band rocking the Kessler Theater. Sis Deville is my all-girl southern rock group with Carolyn Wonderland, Shelley King, Sarah Brown and Lisa Pankratz. We play rarely but it’s a great project! I am touring this summer and will perform shows in the NE with my Sis D bandmate, Shelley King. http://www.myspace.com/sisdeville
What is on your iPod?
I love everything from Hank Williams to Joni Mitchell to AC/DC, and anything from the early 70’s. Free, Gram Parsons, The Outlaws, Suzi Quatro, Bob Dylan, Guy Clark, The Seldom Scene, Willie & Waylon, Patty Griffin, to name a few!
How do you manage being a singer and a mom?
Being a mother comes first and I enjoy raising our 2 girls in a musical family. They both know all the words to my songs and love seeing their Mom and Dad on stage while they dance or often take the mic and start singing! Gabor plays harmonica in the band and we look forward to the girls joining us on instruments in the future! Fiddle? Drums?
Where can fans buy your music?
I have 3 albums out, the newest release is titled “Dreams”. Locally, you can find my CDs at Indigo 1745 and Epiphany in the Bishop Arts District. Online, they are available through my web site http://www.floramay.com and CD Baby. Of course, they are all available on iTunes!
The show is Friday, June 18th, doors at 7pm. The Floramay Holliday Band performs at 10pm and the other bands are Ruby Jane, Phoenix Hart, and Chandler Nash.
