Tiny Taco Stand Has Potential
While dropping off some mail recently at the main post office I noticed what looked like a new taco stand that had opened at the corner of Hardwick and Comstock. It’s brightly colored façade and vinyl banner seemed almost a mirage in an area that really doesn’t boast any other retail or restaurant options.
So I made a point to stop by yesterday morning to sample the breakfast tacos and see what else they had to offer. They have 5 tacos on the breakfast menu: ham and egg, bacon and egg, sausage and egg, chorizo and egg and potato and egg. All breakfast tacos are $1 and are served on flour tortillas with a side of salsa. We tried the potato and egg, bacon and egg, sausage and egg and chorizo and egg and thought they were all a good value for the price. The tortillas don’t seem homemade, but they were good and the fillings were flavorful.
Tucked just behind the taco stand is a covered seating area that includes, surprisingly, a couple of pool tables – seems like a spot that would be nice to hangout if the weather ever starts to cool off.
The menu also includes gorditas, burritos, quesadillas, and a lunch special of a hamburger, fries and a drink for $4. I’m not sure this place is going to win any awards for best tacos in Oak Cliff, but if you are heading by the post office then it’s worth you making a stop at La Gaviota Taqueria.
