Leopards, Bisons and BBQ

While there’s be no official announcement of the opening date for Luckie’s Smokehouse (1300 West Davis), a party is being planned for Thursday, February 10th to unveil a 16 foot long mural that has been commissioned by Luckie’s landlord and area real estate investors Craig Schenkel and Mark Miranda.

The mural features a variety of Oak Cliff faces, including a few famous folks that call Oak Cliff home, a few folks that stopped by the Cliff at one time or another, and a few folks you probably see around at area restaurants, shops and grocery stores. Dallas artist Rick Timmons, who has done similar murals at Matt’s El Rancho in Lakewood and at The Corner Tap bar, has been working on the Luckie’s mural for the past several months in preparation for the restaurant opening.

The unveiling will also serve another purpose, and that is to raise money for North Oak Cliff area high schools. Craig Schenkel has shown amazing support for both Sunset and Adamson high schools over the past  year and is actively trying to engage the neighborhood to join in the support. Your $25 entry to this event gets you a plate of Luckie’s BBQ, a cold beverage and the proceeds go to benefit the Sunset High School band and the Adamson High School athletic department.

Tickets can be purchased in advance here, or the day of the event at the door. Event starts at 6pm.
