Bastille on Bishop
Go Oak Cliff, in association with Alliance Francaise de Dallas and the French American Chamber of Commerce presents the second annual “Bastille on Bishop” festival this Thursday, July 14th, from 6PM – 10PM in the Bishop Arts District . Head out to Bishop Boulevard for food, music, dancing, games, and more in celebration of Oak Cliff’s historic La Reunion settlement. Once again, we’ll be filling the streets with sand to create petanque courts while Matt Tolentino of the Singapore Slingers, performs french music with a jazz quartet he’s assembled for the evening. The Get Bent scooter group will host a rally to Bishop leaving from East Dallas, and Bike Friendly Oak Cliff is coordinating its own “Bike to Bastille” ride. The evening will include french maid relays, crepe stands, mimes, kids activities, wine hosted by Calais wineries, and a video message from the Mayor of Dijon. Also, an all-star line-up of area chefs will compete in a mussels competition. Chefs include:
- Scott Romano, Charlie Palmer
- John Tesar, The Commissary
- Marc Cassel, Peavy Road
- Tim Byres, Smoke
- Graham Dodds, Bolsa
- Tony Gardizi, Decanter
- Matt McCallister, formerly of Stephan Pyles
There will be three rounds of cooking and all the chefs will compete in each round. The judges (Tim Rogers, Robert Wilonsky, Todd Johnson, Roy Appleton, Christopher Wynn, Jeff Whitington, Steven Doyle and Nanci Taylor) will assign points to each chef in each round and the winner will be determined by the highest total number of points.
First batch of mussels will start cooking at 7pm and should be served by 7:15pm. Second batch goes on at 7:45 to be served by 8pm and the final batch goes on at 8:30pm.
